I am part of a group looking at API usage and we're curious about types of apps, beyond the breakout of app/script/library; considering function/intent rather than method. Below are some potential categories, with example apps that would be in each category. We're interested to know what the subcommunity of API developers and users thinks of these categories.
Are there categories to add to the list?
Should any categories be redefined or merged?
Don't get too hung up on the specific wording of the category names. This could inform some type of site navigation/browsing in the future, but right now we're looking to understand these groupings more generally.
The categories don't need to be mutually exclusive (an app could be in more than one) but we're interested to hear more about areas of overlap that you see.
You may add example apps under a category if the example is unique or especially exemplary of the category. But this question is not an attempt to list out all the apps that might fit into a category. Also, please note that listing of app examples is purely to assist with this exercise and is not meant to promote or endorse any specific apps.
