Does updating your sip module solve the problem? I haven't gotten around to making a standalone Linux install so you may need to update that module for it to run at the moment.
icon_url is 404ing -- is this going to be added during the beta? I wasnt sure if "pick the icon" is part of the Area51 stuff or if it was decided when the site launches.
I dont know much about this area, but if this is true this would be very helpful for python API calls. Currently you need to read the request into a temporary file-like buffer then do the decompression with a separate gzip call -- it is kind of a pain.
