Retrieve inbox notifications
Currently, no. The inbox isn't exposed (as doing so would require user authentication, which is also not yet available).

Can we have some sort of notification system?
No.
Its far too late in the v1 game to add something this complex.
Note that the current policy is that you shouldn't be polling faster than once a minute, not two minutes.

Trying to get the Total results count crashes the /notifications path
This was fixed in the latest deploy.
Sorry about the wait, a fix was actually staged a few days ago but deploying it was delayed by our yearly company get together.
