Description

The underlines in the Stack Exchange chat can be too much in some cases. This is an attempt to reduce them to reasonable levels.

Installation

This is available as both a userstyle and a userscript. Choose whichever you prefer. In case you can't choose - go with the userstyle.

Userstyle

Install through a Userstyle manager like Stylus.

Changes

For all chat servers, removed underlines from:

  • Tags
    From
    tag with an underline
    to
    tag without an underline
  • Replies
    from
    username in a reply with an underline
    to
    username in a reply without an underline

For chat.stackoverflow.com:

  • The messages of several bots will never have underlines. The bots are:
    • DharmanBot
    • Guttenberg
    • Natty
    • Queen
    • SmokeDetector

For chat.stackexchange.com:

  • The messages of several bots will never have underlines. The bots are:
    • metasmoke
    • Natty
    • SmokeDetector

For chat.meta.stackexchange.com:

  • The messages of several bots will never have underlines. The bots are:
    • SmokeDetector

An example of the change for bot messages:

from chat messages from bots and users with underlines for the links to chat messages from bots without underlines for the links, while messages from users still have underlines
