Mar 9, 2012 at 20:06 comment added Jon Ericson @Benjol: Thanks for your help. I'm not sure how widespread the script is outside of SO, but I think my change will help me on other Stack Exchange sites.

With Benjol's help, I solved my problem and learned a bit of JavaScript to boot!
Mar 9, 2012 at 6:44 comment added Benjol the way I'm thinking about it right now, I think I'd be tempted to make the whole greeting configurable (there are some people who don't like it). I've got a few other changes in the pipes, so this may take a while. In the meantime, if you want to do a personal hack while you're waiting, you need to track down the user-script file, go to line 66, and replace sitename = arr[arr.length - 2]; with sitename = arr[arr.length - 2] + 'your_suffix_here';. After saving, you'll need to F5 in your browser to see the difference...
Mar 8, 2012 at 17:15 comment added Jon Ericson @Benjol: I was thinking of something like: 'Welcome to ' + sitename + sitesuffix + '! ' in the place where you construct the greeting. Then I would want to configure it somehow (I don't really know JavaScript) to set sitesuffix = '—Stack Exchange'. Does that make any sense?
Mar 8, 2012 at 5:50 comment added Benjol Jon, how do you see the variable suffix? Could you give me some examples, and maybe an idea of how/where you'd modify it?
Mar 7, 2012 at 16:55 comment added Jon Ericson @Benjol: Yes, that would help. In fact, it would clarify some of the other messages, now that I see it in action. ;-) I wonder if it would be possible to add a variable suffix (which would default to the null string) at least for the Welcome portion. (I really do like the work you've done with this. If I have to type a few extra letters once in a while, it will still be a huge win for me.)
Mar 7, 2012 at 7:37 comment added Benjol I'm loath to do more than that, because there's a risk of getting negative feedback from other users who are happy with the current functionality (unfortunately I haven't yet coded a 'feedback' function in this script!). Let me know what you think.

Mar 7, 2012 at 7:15 comment added Benjol OK, that won't work for the Welcome bit (I'd have to code that up), but would it be a viable alternative?
Mar 7, 2012 at 7:13 comment added Benjol Typically lazy developer's response, how about *%SITENAME%*?
