I'm glad to report that the latest Chrome dev build (10.0.648.82) the extension works perfectly once again!

@systempuntoout I don't even think there's much use in notifying the user that the process is complete, since there's still an nondeterministic amount of time left until the file is actually sent to the device by Amazon through the e-mail address. I think the request can just automatically return "Your book will appear on the device shortly" and if this fails somewhere for some reason, we can send an error message/trace as the document instead. As you say, the hard part will be adapting his code to work on GAE :) I will look into that tomorrow, hopefully. I'm pretty optimistic though!

Actually, I just checked the relevant docs, and the timeout for Tasks in a Task Queue in the 1.4.0 API is ten minutes, not 30 seconds (which is the limit for a request to return). Since sending the document through e-mail can be done asynchronously, this is totally acceptable.

@systempuntoout Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think tasks on a task queue can add more tasks to the task queue. So as long as each individual step can be completed in 30 seconds I can just have a pipeline of tasks until the whole thing is assembled. In fact, if even they can't, you can still get the same effect by creating all the task queues at the same time and having the later stages fail until the output from the previous stages is present in the Datastore. I guess my point is I don't think the 30-second limit is too much of a limitation in this case.

I upgraded Chrome on the machine that it was working on, and indeed it no longer works. So probably not the extension's fault (unless it was relying on previously buggy behavior, but that's unlikely)

I just checked on a (slighly) older developer version of Chrome on my OS X laptop, and it's working fine there. So chances are good this issue has nothing to do with the extension. Sorry for the false alarm! :)

@Jared Yup, I'm on Chrome 10.0.648.45 dev. I hadn't considered the possibility that the problem was caused by a Chrome update but I suppose that's entirely possible. Is anyone on a stable version of Chrome still able to use the extension?

It looks like the extension stopped working around yesterday; the pop-up page is just blank. Is there something wrong with the GAE instance? I miss it already :(

When trying to add the profile tab, I am getting "An error occurred while trying to add the application to your profile. Please try again later". It does this no matter how many times I try :( Any ideas?

Congratulations on your well-deserved third-place finish in the contest! I personally would've pushed you up one or two places if I was judging, but still :) Great job!

@Nippysaurus, unfortunately it definitely does; I installed the latest version (0.2) for the very first time a few minutes before I wrote that comment and it had "Nippysaurus" in the toolbar (not the icon with the rep) for SO by default. I had never installed a previous version so it couldn't have gotten confused with anything from before. I was able to re-associate the badge icon to my account, but not the toolbar. Hope this helps :)

Do you realize that the bar is by default associated with your (Nippysaurus') SO account? (And it hasn't changed, even after I enter my UserID in the preference) Very impressive badge count, by the way :)
