Big Ball of Mud maintainer (mostly Java, C++, and SQL - Perl, Python, and JavaScript as necessary) currently living in Charlotte, NC. I also tutor Java, Python, and JavaScript part-time at Franklin University.

I blog about programming, math, learning, and technology at BillTheLizard.com.

You can follow me on Twitter, @lizardbill. (If I recognize you from SO or meta, I'll probably follow you back.) You can also find me on Google+ and on GitHub. (Questions about moderator actions on Stack Overflow should still be posted on Meta Stack Overflow.)

I also wrote @BountyBot, a Twitter bot that posts new and interesting bounty questions from Stack Overflow. You can view the source on GitHub.

@BrockAdams Yes, if a post stays on the site for 60 days or more and has a score of 3 or higher when it's deleted, you get to keep the reputation. meta.stackoverflow.com/a/124805/1288

@TimStone You might be on to something. I know I have a ton of answers on old deleted questions that probably were upvoted enough and stuck around long enough that the reputation was grandfathered.

You could probably do this with a combination of search for profile links and /questions/{ids}/linked.

comment Looking for a beginner's tutorial to using the API
@RanjitPati That library is quite far out of date. There were a few others, but I don't know if any of them have been kept up. See the answers to Java wrapper for Stack Exchange.

comment How much content is OK to display?
@ChrisGerken I'm not sure either. It might have been observed in the past from sites that were scraping giant amounts of content from Stack Overflow, so they put that clause in just to explicitly tell people not to do it.

comment How much content is OK to display?
Are you asking from a UX perspective (How much information do users want to see?) or from a licensing perspective (How much information am I allowed to show?)?

@Jack If I can find the time I'll update it, but I don't have any immediate plans to, so I don't know when that will be.

@Mat: Yeah, I've tested it with all the Trilogy sites, including Meta. It should work with any of the sites that have an active API route.

Is there any way to get a user's badges (the /user/badges route)? See this SO question: stackoverflow.com/questions/5091513/…

@rascher: Those will be in the MetadataList returned by the methods in StackWrapper. It looks like we made a mistake and didn't expose that data, because those methods return List, which you'll have to cast.

Thanks for the notification, I'll check it out and let you know when I have some free time. Right now I'm only using the StackAuth part, but that could change as my little side project grows.

comment How to format time since xxx e.g. “4 minutes ago” similar to Stack Exchange sites
@Juha: Yeah, I'm not crazy about that either. It's an artifact of the way that "an hour ago" is defined as 45 - 90 minutes ago and anything more than that (within the last 24 hours) is displayed as an integer number of hours. I wanted to stay true to the original implementation though.

comment Post questions using API
It seems like this question gets asked every week, but I can't find the original or any duplicates (they're probably being deleted). Perhaps it should be added to the FAQ or even the Getting Started sidebar?

I had a feeling this one would be nasty when the test output started changing on its own. Thanks for killing it.

@Catchwa: It does look there was a fix that we could apply on our end. Can you try version 1.0.1 and let us know how that works for you? We appreciate the feedback.

Is it GWT or Google App Engine that's throwing the exception? I've not used either, but it looks like the security permission error is coming from GAE. Is there somewhere that you can configure permissions?
