About

I've spent the first 20 years of my career writing C, assembler, C++, Perl, Objective-C (on NeXTSTEP), and Forth/Open Firmware (ordered by time spent), with some exposure to Verilog and VHDL, followed by 10 years with C#, F#, and PowerShell. Since 2015, my work is mostly in Go with some Clojure (mainly to generate reams of Go, SQL, and Azure ARM templates from complex metadata).

I've been using Wolfram Mathematica recreationally since version 2.0 in 1992, the single most flexible and generally useful tool I've ever had the pleasure to use. I've dabbled with Common Lisp, Scheme, and Racket for side projects before Clojure came along and am considering getting my feet wet with Nim and Roc. Currently, most of my personal projects are in Rust and Zig. The latter is especially exciting and may yet transition to my professional life once the compiler is more stable.

Learning Standard ML and Haskell were significant formative experiences. Date's published works have had a profound influence on how I perceive data. And I try to read Knuth when I need to be reminded that there is intelligent life on this planet.
