My name is Benjamin Dumke-von der Ehe. I am Stack Overflow Valued Associate #00007, which is just a confusing way of saying that I work as a developer for Stack Exchange.

I am @balpha on Twitter. My blog's "about" page explains the origin of my user name.

I am the creator of Unicornify, the service that gives you these lovable creatures:

I also created Lyfe, a small library adding yield-based generators to JavaScript, and Not a Real Question, a little game that's played with data from various Stack Exchange sites.

I sometimes have a strange sense of humor, but I also like to explain things I fix, break, care about, or come up with.

@rlemon To each his own. I, for one, have yet to see a piece of code where a 30% performance increase in element-by-Id look up even remotely started to possibly look like maybe making a difference.

A little jQuery hint: $('#present-users') is much nicer than $(document.getElementById('present-users')), and means the same thing

The next build fixes several bugs with regards to editing permissions. Unfortunately the one you're exploiting here is among them. Sorry :)

Actually, all this script (in its current version) really needs is to remove spaces, so the character whitelist isn't really necessary anymore (I really thought I had made this change already, but it looks like I never did). I'll add your characters to stackapps.com/questions/2050/threaded-comments, though. And good point about updating the site list; will do. Thanks!

@Dont in theory yes, since votes have an exact time stamp. In practice, that's a lot more data to pull from the server, and does anyone really need hourly (or higher) resolution?

@glasnt: Yeah, you'll see those once in a while -- lots of applications using the API are running on the Google App Engine, so if one of them goes rogue, chances are good that this impacts NARQ as well. Glad you enjoyed it!

@DennisWilliamson: If this still happens after updating, what user page is that happening on?
