Stack Apps is a question and answer site for apps, scripts, and development with the Stack Exchange API. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Important Notice

Virtually all of the funtionality from this stackapp has since been incorporated into Stack Exchange natively since it was developed. As a result, this app serves no real purpose and is just kept here for historical purposes. It will probably not be of any use to anyone any more.

About

I know there's already at least one other aggregator out there, but I wanted to have a go at doing my own anyway.

The graphing realllllly sucks, and not all the functionality is avaliable, and there's probably bugs, but I did it as an exercise to rehash my programming skills.

License

I probably broke a whole bunch of rules because I nicked the stylesheet straight from ServerFault. If this is not cool, if someone from the team lets me know I'll change it ASAP (Actually I plan on changing it soon anyway).

http://sagg.column80.com/ - I've pre-programmed a bunch of sites into the list of avaliable apps, but you can add your own by entering the domain name (e.g. meta.stackoverflow.com) on the configuration screen. All of the API exposed sites are automagically populated (cached every 24 hours), but if you want to add your own API exposed site, then you can add it manually (perhaps a unicorn told you about a new site that's not in the official API list but still runs the API?)

Code

I haven't done any programming in about 5 years, so it was also a way for me refresh my skills. It uses the PHPStack by Thomas McDonald. If you really want the source and you promise not to make (public) fun of me, then I'd be more than happy to share.

It also gives easy access to:

+1 Very nice. Even have option to add sites. –  YOU Jun 6 '10 at 5:19

Great job. I really dig how you integrated the copy-paste box in the dialog. I've added a link to SAggregator in my description. –  Soviut Jun 8 '10 at 7:59

Might want to add a "Select-all" link to the initial dialog. –  Nathan Osman Jun 25 '10 at 4:44

@George, if my son decides not to keep me up till 2am begging for cuddles through the only communication method he knows (screaming) I will try and get it done tonight. I've gotta change it to run on the stackauth published sites as well, as it's hacked together using a combination of guessing and screenscrapes atm. –  Mark Henderson Jun 25 '10 at 4:55

@Farseeker: No problem, just a suggestion. I committed a fix for those small glitches in stack.PHP –  Nathan Osman Jun 25 '10 at 4:58

I decided to ditch the 'select all' button, as the list of stack exchange sites is growing almost daily, there's too many. Nobody in their right mind would actually want to do a 'select all' and it's not very efficient if you do. –  Mark Henderson Jul 12 '10 at 0:05

I gotta say, this got alot more useful when we started making all these new sites, :). Also really digging the StackTack and StackPrinter integration, nice job! –  Kevin Montrose Jul 16 '10 at 19:03

Glad to be of service. I will look at adding tag highliting and whatnot soon. –  Mark Henderson Jul 17 '10 at 9:21

There seems to be an issue when using more than one "excluded" tag. Reproduce: Select WebApps Meta and Gaming Meta, Tag Search, "bug -status-completed -status-bydesign". You'll get back some results that have [bug] and one of [status-completed] or [status-bydesign]. Naturally, there's no overlap in [status-completed] and [status-bydesign] so I'm not sure the "one of" invariant holds. –  Kevin Montrose Aug 1 '10 at 2:09

@Kevin, Hmm, thanks. I won't get a chance to look at it for about 12 hours but I shall! –  Mark Henderson Aug 1 '10 at 21:44

Something that would actually be of great use to the team...

If your search supported excluding tags (presumably using the same - syntax the SE sites do). Then it would be pretty easy to query, oh say, all meta sites for questions tagged [bug] and not [status-completed]. It also be neat if you interleaved them instead of breaking them into separate categories, perhaps that could be a preference thing.

You also have a bug (in Chrome, Windows 7 64-bit) when you search multiple sites where every site past the second doesn't have a name or icon. alt text

Thanks for the feedback Kevin. The sequential search was to get around a bug that I didn't have time to fix, so I'll get around to putting it back in. I'll also have a look at the tag search. –  Mark Henderson Jul 31 '10 at 23:28

Great app! but this desperately needs the ability to highlight and ignore specific tags!
